Rudy Giuliani and his AdWords campaign

The people over at ADV media have written a very interesting article about Rudy Giuliani, and how he’s leveraged Google AdWords to help his online reputation.

For those of you who aren’t farmiliar, here’s some background on the story:

There has been a  a sort of viral smear campaign against Rudy for the past month or so. Most of the action has been taking place on social networking sites such as reddit.com and digg.com. It seems as if every time someone posts an inflamitory article about Rudy, it gets voted up to the top.

In order to battle this, the Giuliani campaign has been putting up ads under social issue keywords such as “immigration” or “tax cuts”. At the same time, they’ve been careful to avoid keywords that would avoid click spam.

Very interesting analysis.
